Mid-Atlantic As Hot As July This Weekend!
It's going to be hot - yes, I said hot, for the first time this Spring in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast all weekend (Friday through Monday). So if you like hot weather, get ready to enjoy it, and if you don't like hot weather, then start flashing back to living down South as I do. (I don't mind days in the 70s but 80s are a bit warm, especially with humidity).
Here's our high temperature map for Saturday, note a small area of 90s around Frederick, MD, and widespread 80s:
Here are some city details for the highest temps we will see this weekend. As you can see, high temperatures will be close to normal maximums at the peak of the summer, i.e. July, which makes this heat wave newsworthy, but will fall short of record highs.
CITY / HIGHEST THIS WEEKEND / AVERAGE HIGH AT SUMMER'S PEAK / RECORD HIGHFrederick, MD: 92 / 88* / 88* Washington, D.C. (DCA): 84 / 89 / 95 Baltimore: 85 / 88 / 94 State College, PA: 83 / 81 / 90 New York City: 84 / 85 / 91 Philadelphia: 85 / 92**
*Numbers for nearest climo station which is Dulles Airport, D.C. **Philadelphia has an unusually low record high of 86 on Sunday the 24th which could be challenged.
Be careful when you venture out this weekend folks, and don't overdo it. Use caution when getting out and about this weekend. Think about how cold the local stream or lake might be before jumping into it, and do outside activities thinking it's July, not April (that includes sun screen!)
