Maps: Flooding, Severe T-Storms In Plains
UPDATE on the Dallas comment below... this video at NBC5 quoted intense lightning, multiple funnel clouds and 100 mph winds. The airport administrator described it as "the most vicious" storm in "the past few years."UPDATE: Thanks to blog reader Marianne for the tip - a possible funnel cloud and 65 mph winds were reported at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport today.ORIGINAL POST:Flooding rains have hit the Plains today and severe Thunderstorms are about to crank up. There's so much video coming into our studios I can't keep up with it, but I'll try to post some highlights later tonight. The Arklatex area and all of "la" are about to get a round of tornadic thunderstorms... keep an eye on the StormMatrix Stats Box below for updates on that:
The AccuWeather.com 24-Hour Precip Map at 7 PM showed between 5 and 12 inches over a wide area, but it was probably overestimating.
Looking at a local radar basis, AccuWeather.com RadarPlus showed over 5 inches of rain northeast of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, where flooding was widespread this afternoon.
But in southwest Missouri, the Fort Smith, AR radar indicated over 10 inches of rain in remote areas.
