Lightning Hits NWS Office in Detroit
Thanks to blog reader and possibly office-mate Carl, I found out that lightning hit The NWS office in Detroit and caused a bit of havoc Wednesday night. Here's a newspaper article. Here's what the radar looked like right before it hit (their office is the "X" on the map):
The NWS report was less descriptive, saying "LIGHTNING STRIKE TO NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE". Their report on the radar being struck was similar: "THE KDTX WSR-88D IS DOWN AND RESTORATION TIME IS UNKNOWN." C'mon guys, up with some eyewitness reports and photos!
