Large Moderate Severe Weather Risk! And Wind
UPDATE: Stay tuned for radars and storm stats later today. Remember, large tornado outbreaks in February are not unprecedented; we just had one last year. Heck, I even got lightning here in Central PA on Feb. 6, 2008. Don't forget that the wind is going to be a big problem, because of thunderstorms or not, for areas devastated by January's ice storm.
ORIGINAL POST: I added an exclamation point to today's blog entry title because of how rapidly the forecast issued by The SPC [JessePedia] has rapidly increased in severity (pun intended). Yesterday they had no Moderate risk, then a tiny one yesterday afternoon; this morning a large Moderate risk area has been issued surrounding the Arklatex region (you can see all 3 maps on the Forums).
This could get very interesting. The SPC is making no bones about it, saying in their Public Severe Weather Outlook: "THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW STRONG...LONG-TRACK TORNADOES AND WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS OF THE ARKLATEX LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT." Stay tuned to our Weather Headlines (at right) and Breaking Weather News Page (PREMIUM | PRO).
