Kentucky Gets Snow Twice This Week?
A blog reader wrote in to ask if Western Kentucky was in for a heavy snow event this week. I started looking into it, and the answer, as usual, is "It depends on which model you ask."
As usual, we'll start with the major models. Here are the latest maps from the Pro site.
The GFS shows two snow storms for Kentucky this week:

While the NAM (the preferred short-range model) is having none of it. It's calling the first storm all rain and the second storm too far south.
AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi says that the Japanese model is favoring a decent winter storm from the Plains eastward:
My apologies, we don't have Snow/Ice/Rain graphics on Pro for the JMA. What Joe's looking at is probably forecast upper-air data (which drives the weather here at ground level), surface temperatures, and precipitation output.
