I was lucky enough to be in a briefing on this topic two weeks ago (sworn to secrecy until now of course!) It is fascinating to watch Joe talk about landfalling hurricanes, a topic that he is very passionate about. We'll release more information this week on AccuWeather.com, but meantime I can release what has been released on MarketWatch.com.
Joe attended a Energy conference in Houston, Texas last week. During that conference, he estimated that one tropical storm and five hurricanes will hit U.S. shores this year, with the concentration being on the western Gulf coast, the Carolinas, and the Northeast carrying high threats of landfall. Because of the high concentration of oil rigs in the western Gulf, this area is of keen interest to energy folks, so this was the area concentrated on during the conference.
