INT: Southern Earth Gets Extreme Cold
Extreme cold is being experienced this week in the southernmost reaches of our globe, including Antarctica, southern Argentina, and South Africa. Of course, it is winter down there, but this is unusual even for the cold season. JA wrote in his blog on Monday: "A cold day in the wake of a strong southern African cold front. At Johannesburg, the low was -3.1 seem like -10 will be coldest Tuesday night, fair to say that -5 and maybe western Zimbabwe." These are Celcius readings, of course.
Then I got an email and these photos from MetSul in Brazil, saying:
Early Thursday, temperatures in Antarctica also plunged. Amundsen-Scott Base in Antarctica dipped to -85 F and Vostok, Antarctica fell to -83 F. For further updates, consult the MetSul Blog (translate).
