INT: Isaac No 1900 Storm, Canada
Hurricane Isaac pales in comparison to the 1900 Galveston Hurricane, featured in Isaac's Storm, a book about the deadliest storm in U.S. history. The book has become a political tool for promoting rare weather disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and even Global Warming. The Galveston Hurricane was Category 4 at landfall... Isaac is barely a Cat 1 storm and will be weaker by the time it hits Newfoundland, Canada, where a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect this morning.
Isaac is the 3rd named storm to affect the Canadian Maritimes this season. The storm will be absorbed by the system which brought heavy rain to the Northeast U.S. this weekend. Unfortunately, that system is dropping heavy rain on Newfoundland today so flooding will be a concern. We expect that at least 60 mm (2.36 inches) of rain will fall (with higher amounts) over parts of Newfoundland Monday and Monday night, with an additional 100 mm (3.93 in) Tuesday and Tuesday night. Keep an eye on our Newfoundland Radar (PREMIUM | PRO) to see what's left of Isaac as he makes landfall tonight.
Canadian expert Brett Anderson (PREMIUM | PRO) has a breakdown of specific conditions that will take place and is forecasting the time and place of landfall; also monitor our Breaking Weather News Page for additional information as Isaac nears shore.
