The National Weather Service in Paducah, KY has issued the statement shown below:

NWS STATEMENT: A major tornado struck the Evansville area around 2 A.M. Sunday. National Weather Service personnel are investigating the area. The complete path length is expected to be determined today. Based on preliminary data, it is suspected that the path begins near Smith Mills in northwest Henderson County and ends near the Warrick/Spencer County line, possibly near Gentryville, IN. The F-scale intensity has yet to be determined. By Tuesday morning, this statement will be updated. Severe damage was reported in southern Vanderburgh County, along the southern city limits of Evansville. Preliminary figures indicate around 22 fatalities and 200 injuries. A mobile home park near Interstate 164 was the site of many of the injuries and fatalities. Severe damage continued east-northeast across Warrick County, from Newburgh to just south and east of Boonville.
