Indian Cyclone Death Toll Rises
According to an AP article, the death toll from Monday's cyclone (hurricane) that hit India's Andhra Pradesh state, has passed 1,000.
15,000 houses have been severely damaged. Like Katrina here in the U.S., the damage was caused by high winds and flooding, and people were rescued from the waters by helicopter. Kakinada was inundated by 13.2 inches of rain while Vishakhapatnam was flooded by 12.9 inches.
Show above is a NASA TRMM precipitation estimate showing around 15 inches of rain in the affected area. Also available is a satellite image from Monday as the storm moved inland.
