Incredible: 117 in Northern California
I blogged about the hot weather expected in the Northwest yesterday, but today I can tell you the actual readings were just incredible.
Take for example Redding, California. They hit 117 yesterday, eclipsing their all-time June high temperature. Not only that, but it was the fourth day in a row they had set a daily record:
June 22nd: New Daily Record: 107
June 23rd: New Daily Record: 111
June 24th: New Daily Record: 114
June 25h: New Daily Record: 117
This weather is still astounding, even though it's typically hot in Redding this time of year (see map below); their normal high temperature yesterday was 94. Why is that?Paul Yeager's blog today (PREMIUM | PRO) explains why Redding is normally so hot compared to other locations in Northern California.

Redding: Abnormally Hot Anyway
In Portland, Oregon, they hit 101, also a new June record. Their normal high is 75, folks! Even the daily average was 17 above normal, which is about as high as it gets!
