Ice Pillars, Meteor, Halo: A Night on the AccuCams
UPDATE: NASA has a (much) better video of the meteor / fireball!
A number of interesting weather and astronomical phenomena were caught on film last night on the AccuCam Webcam Network. Here's a time-lapse video showing them all:
We can thank the unusually cold air today for the light pillars (thanks Becky for the tip) and "diamond dust sun dogs (see photos below), as well as the snow that moved in last night. The meteor (now documented on the AMS site) was just chance.
Rewinding my AccuCam at home, I found an interesting laundry list of phenomena yesterday morning: The moonrise, the sunrise, jet contrails, a 22-degree halo (also caused by ice crystals), and wave clouds.
