HYPE: GFS And CMC Hurricanes?
In model hype today, the GFS has a low pressure system moving off the coast of Africa on tomorrow, forming a 978 mb (Category 2) hurricane north of Puerto Rico on August 20th, but the only land affected is a close call with the Canadian Maritimes on August 23rd. While I haven't been paying attention to the model this week, I am told by blog readers that it has appeared consistently.
It would appear that the WaveWatch model is also picking this up, showing waves over 21 feet in the Atlantic on August 14th.
In other model news, AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO) says:
And as of this afternoon, the Canadian (CMC) model is showing a tropical storm developing between Miami and Cuba... quite strange. Thanks Blog Reader Carl for that note.
