HYPE: Could October NE Snow Happen?
UPDATE: The 00Z run backed off on the storm, moving the snow further north, but the 06Z is back on board. We may see this repeated; this is probably because the 06Z/18Z Weird Runs [JessePedia] are not as "smart" as the 00Z/12Z runs.

As mentioned earlier this week, the GFS is back to its old (seasonal) tricks from last fall, predicting snow and cold for northern New England on Day 15. Here's the 12Z run:
While a New England snowstorm is unlikely this early in the season, it does speak to the idea that we are in for below normal temperatures mid-month. AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO) explains:
A mid-October snowfall in northern New England is not outside the realm of historical probability, in fact we've passed the record earliest snowfall date in the highest mountains. Here's a map:
