Hurricane Season Active... But Not In Atlantic
The Hurricane season is quite active in the Eastern Pacific... with two storms (Boris & Christina) moving westward into cooler waters this Monday morning.
Meanwhile, in the Atlantic, our map seems almost wishful, as the tropical waves we are encircling (OK, ensquaring) barely have any cloud cover. But don't fret, we're only in Month 1 of a 6-Month hurricane season, and nowhere near the peak yet. Come July 1st though, you'll hear people grumbling about a lack of activity despite these facts.
So why don't hurricanes ever hit the U.S. West Coast? Well, for one, their tracks usually take them away from land, instead of towards it like in the Atlantic. And secondly, that cold water that puts Californians in wetsuits (when they are at the same latitude as the Georgia coast!) kills the storms if they approach.
