A very impressive-looking Category 3 Hurricane Odile slammed into the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico Sunday, causing damage never seen in the modern era and tying the record for the strongest hurricane on record (Olivia, 1967) to hit the state ever. Damage was swift and severe, as you can see by the photos on AccuWeather.com and other websites. Now, a new threat for the Southwest U.S.: major flooding.
Forecast models have been outputting rain amounts more than the monthly record rainfall in some areas -- as much as 7-10 inches by next week. Only 4 inches of rain caused chaos in Phoenix just a few weeks ago. "There is the potential for devastating, catastrophic and historic flooding in this scenario," AccuWeather Western Weather Expert Ken Clark stated in an interview.
