Hurricane Gustav Cat 3 Plus, Hanna Behind
UPDATE: Gustav is now a Category 4 hurricane as of 1:20 PM. Just 12 hours ago, he was a Category 1. His eye is huge on radar (archived) and satellite.
ORIGINAL REPORT:
Gustav is now a major, Category 3 Hurricane bound for the tip of Cuba, then eventually the Gulf Coast. Models are still consistent but have been trending west. Hanna is not far behind. I will be out of town until suppertime, and will not able to blog, so KEEP AN EYE ON "J's Breaking Weather News" (shown at right) for any big weather news that happens today.

The NHC said this morning:
DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT GUSTAV CONTINUES TO RAPIDLY STRENGTHEN AND NOW HAS MAXIMUM WINDS NEAR 115 MPH...185 KM/HR WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THIS MAKES GUSTAV A DANGEROUS CATEGORY THREE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE...THE SECOND MAJOR HURRICANE OF THE 2008 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON.
