Hurricane Felix Furthest South? Webcams
Hurricane Felix just passed north of Aruba as a Category 2 storm, not far from the northern reaches of Venezuela, South America.
Here's a look at our Google Hurricane Tracker (PREMIUM | PRO) showing his position this Sunday morning:
The Aruba webcams were still up, but the webcams in Bonaire (Netherlands Antilles) and Grenada went down last night.
Hurricane Felix may be the closest hurricane to Aruba (and furthest south at that longitude) in the modern era. My research this morning indicates that, which Hurricane Anna (in 1962 and of similar strength) had a further southern track up until Aruba, it went slightly north of Felix. No other hurricanes after 1950 were as far south. There might have been 4-5 unnamed hurricanes before 1950 that passed south of Felix @ Aruba, only two (Hurricane #4 of 1877 and Hurricane #7 in 1892) which actually made landfall in Venezuela (four tropical storms have also made landfall there since records began).
UNNAMED HURRICANE #4 OF 1877: NOW THAT'S FAR SOUTH!
