Huge Hail Storm in Sydney, Australia!
A huge thunderstorm dropped up to a foot of hail in Sydney, Australia earlier today. Australian storm chaser Jimmy Degurara says, "The Great Western Highway was near impassible with hail drifts over the road. Hail size was up to 3cm."
Indeed, many of the local Twitter trends overnight in Sydney were storm-related:
Our story on the topic says: "The thunderstorm crossed the city during the late-afternoon hours on Saturday. In excess of 50 mm (2 inches) of rain and hail flooded roadways and covered yards. AccuWeather.com meteorologists say that a pocket of cold air aloft triggered and supported the development of hail. This storm comes less than a week after an intense area of low pressure brought flooding and damaging windto eastern New South Wales, including Sydney."
