Hole-Punch Clouds over Florida
UPDATE: One of the photographers said he was facing North-Northeast. I took a look at the Visible Satellite Loop, but couldn't see the formation from that far above the earth. In a NASA satellite photo, I have annotated the area where the clouds probably were in yellow.
A couple of the photographers on the AccuWeather.com Photo Gallery just uploaded pictures of "Hole-Punch Clouds" from Florida today. This is a phenomenon that I explained last winter, but is still fun to see again.
Both Sun City Center and North Redington Beach are near St. Petersburg, Florida, as you can see from the Google Maps links, so the photographers were looking at the same cloud formation.
