High Winds off N.C. Shore
AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi felt it important to mention in his daily blog (therefore I will echo here) that a ship off the coast of North Carolina reported a 59 mph wind gust this morning during heavy rain. It's pressure was 29.59" and falling rapidly. That's pretty impressive for a non-tropical system (especially considering ships only report every 3 hours). Buoy 41013 also reported 14.4 foot waves with winds gusting to 49 mph.
Below is a pressure/wind/radar map from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus, showing the low-pressure system(s) expanding over the Carolinas this afternoon. The "X" indicates where the ship observation was taken this morning.
