Heavy thunderstorms sacked the Gulf of Mexico today, but for the most part the severe weather stayed offshore. There were areas in the Gulf that received over 8 inches of rain according to the AccuWeather.com Texas 24-Hour Doppler Estimated Precip map (PREMIUM | PRO), shown below at right. At left is a snapshot of the radar picture from around 4 p.m. Eastern today, courtesy AccuWeather.com RadarPlus
