Heavy Snow in Pennsylvania, Record in MO
UPDATE 6:30 PM: Another strong line of snow is training over Route 22 causing another Special Statement (archived). Roads look to be nearly impassible, only a snow plough out there and I'm not sure he knows where he's going! Southern Altoona also affected.
See other PennDOT snaps and download* a radar loop of both events.
UPDATE: I-99 in Tyrone is also not looking so good either, with only one lane open after the snow squall passed through. This line should reach my location in about 30 minutes, if I get anything interesting on tape I'll let you know.
ORIGINAL POST 2 PM:
The NWS has issued a Special Weather Statement (archived) for Central Pennsylvania as an unusually strong snow squall line entering the area. Whiteout conditions are expected for 15 minutes or so as it passes through. In fact, I just checked some of the PennDOT cams on 22 through Cresson and Gallitzin and the roads have whitened over, after being nearly clear earlier with partly sunny skies and increasing temperatures.
Meanwhile, in Missouri yesterday, both St. Louis and Columbia broke their daily snow records, with St. Louis having the 2nd snowiest December day this century.
Here's a shot of the Pennsylvania squall as it approached Altoona and I-99:
