Heat Wave: 1,000 Records Set or Tied
In the last two days, 985 official records for high temperatures have been broken or tied in the United States. Add in another day or two before that, and we're over a thousand.
Not only is this hitting at nearly the coldest time of year for much of the U.S., the temperatures themselves are impressive, take State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map] as an example. Today's high will approach 70 degrees, eclipsing the record of 66, set in 1998. Our normal high for the day is HALF THAT at 33 degrees. When I came to work this morning (snapping sunrise & fog pics, by the way) it was over 50 degrees, compared to our normal low temperature for this date of 19!
