Hail Photos from Central PA Storm
There were some wicked storms yesterday here in Central PA. As you can see by the radar animation below (at which I am the "X" near "State College") I did not see any storm action.
But Action Steve Penstone (PREMIUM | PRO), who lives in the eastern part of the county, got some great hail photos (Permalink), at the time that the radar snap below was taken from, northeast of Centre Hall:
Read more about it on his blog (PREMIUM | PRO).
You'll see on the radar loop that the storms were short-lived (in most cases), moved slowly, and were extremely intense by Pennsylvania standards (hitting as high as 70 dBZ). The storm to my south struck lightning at least 5 miles outside of it, as I heard loud thunder, even though I was far from it. There were several hail and wind spotter reports in the area.
I haven't gotten a single hail photo since I moved to Pennsylvania that I can recall. Hail is fairly rare with thunderstorms in PA, especially here just east of the mountains. Back in North Carolina, I saw some good hailstorms (read my stories here) and post your own if you so desire.
