Graphs: Cyclone Strikes Twice in Australia
Tropical Cyclone Laurence struck twice in Australia -- technically making "landfall" two times over the past week as it meandered along the northwest coast). The Examiner says "The storm which at one point was a Category 5 storm damaged buildings and uprooted trees but miraculously no injuries have been reported."
NASA however, says"Laurence was Australia’s first tropical cyclone of the season in December 2009, and the storm reached Category 4 strength before weakening over land. Besides hurricane-force winds, Laurence brought heavy rain to parts of Australia’s northwestern coast... deep blue indicating the heaviest amounts—over 600 millimeters (23.6 inches)."
Here are graphs of wind and pressure from the Mandora weather station (the time reads backwards). Winds peaked at 114 knots (131 mph) / 928.8 mb (27.42" Hg)
