Google Weather News From 1759 to Now!
Google News has hooked up with subscription archivers to offer a news search for articles dating back to the 1700's! I couldn't believe it when I saw it, in fact I had to check to make sure my calendar didn't say "April 1."
This could make microfiche extinct. It's certainly going to make researching past weather events easier.
The oldest articles from a search for weather were from the Edinborough Times, dated 1759! Of course, these were scanned in and the translation leaves something to be desired (how many Thurfdays can you stand*), but it's the thought that counts!
For example, read up on the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 by searching Google News then viewing the Washington Post archive page, then purchase the entire article for only $3.95 or get a framed printout for $89.95.
Or how about the first tornado to be photographed? Read up via Google News in the Washington Post from May 29, 1896.
This is so cool!
*Remember those days where we used fancy s's that looked like f's? Me neither.
