GFS Noreaster Hype Vs. Boston Marathon
An aptly-named runner named "Hurricane Bob" emailed me tonight to ask if he should pack the heavy weather gear for the Boston Marathon on Monday. As he points out, it's not easy running 26.2 miles in good weather. The race begins at 10 a.m., and indeed the GFS Forecast Model [JessePedia] is not painting a pretty picture for Monday:

GFS Monday Afternoon
Since the model is unable to show mixed precipitation, it looks to me like a brutal mix of sleet, rain and snow will challenge runners in Boston Monday. The model projects that winds of 35-45 mph sustained, with gusts no doubt 55-65 mph, are predicted as the Nor'easter drives winds and waves onto the Massachusetts shore:

Of course it's still 5 days out, and that's only one computer model, so stay tuned. We here at AccuWeather.com will keep you updated on the weather's likely effects on the big race.
