GFS: A White Christmas For All...
UPDATE: The 12Z GFS this Friday morning shows EVERY state INCLUDING Florida having some snow on the ground Christmas morning:
ORIGINAL POST:
...And to all a good night. Yesterday morning's GFS Forecast Models [JessePedia] showed snowcover in every state in the union except Florida (even a tiny slice of Georgia and South Carolina, look closely at the map below).
The model was generous with snow cover worldwide (it's a Christmas Miracle!) including Europe, where pretty much every country except Portugal was touched by the white color indicating at least a tenth of an inch of snow.
But before you get too excited, this is the GFS afterall, which has a knack for overestimating cold and snow out 10 days or more. Although this was the farthest southern extent of the snow it had shown so far, it backed off slightly on the extent of the Christmas morning snow with last night's 00Z run, then expanded it further into the southeast by Christmas evening.
