Galveston Hurricane Anniversary
Today is the Anniversary of the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. This era existed before modern weather tools, and before the full danger of hurricanes was known. As a result, it is estimated that between 6,000 and 12,000 people were killed by the Category 4 storm's 15-foot storm surge and 135-mph sustained winds.
