Followup on NOLA Levees Vs. Miss. Flooding
MSNBC has a followup article today on how the Mississippi Flooding might affect the New Orleans Levee system, and as I said yesterday, more rain is coming. You can read my original entry about the levees and flooding here. The USGS gauge at the Bonnet Carre Spillway has gone up two feet since my original report:
The article says that the Spillway has not yet been opened even though the river levels continue to be the highest in 11 years, and the river is expected to crest at 17 feet on April 16th, just 3 feet below what the levee system can handle. The official NOAA river forecast at New Orleans only goes out through April 12th but shows the river approaching "Flood Stage at 17 Feet." Historically speaking, that page says that the river has never been above 21.21 feet.
