Flooding Pics, Video from Central PA
UPDATE: My video is finally online, sorry for the delay. This is the short version, 8 minutes long, hitting only the highlights of my trip, for which I probably have close to an hour of raw video. You can download a clearer, ad-free version (39 MB) here, and you can comment/rate this video on our Photo Gallery.
DISCLAIMER: DO NOT ATTEMPT. I do things in this video as a meteorologist and reporter that you should not try yourself, including driving around "local barricades" (where only one side of the road is closed but local traffic is allowed) and driving through roads underwater. You should not drive through flooded roadways, even if the water is not moving, because... It could be deep enough to float your car away (it only takes 2 feet) - OR- the roadway could be washed out underneath and your car might get stuck or plunge into it. As the government says: "Turn Around, Don't Drown."
Below is a detailed explanation of what and where the clips in the video were filmed, as well as (for our non-wireless users) an interactive Google Map of my "flood tour" showing the spots from the video above.
AccuWeather.com videographer Vern Horst also took some great pics of the Elk Creek flooding:
ORIGINAL REPORT:
Widespread creek and some river flooding is occurring in Central Pennsylvania today. I took a drive this morning and captured some video of the flooding, which I will present here soon. Meanwhile if you're on a web browser, check out my photos of structures and parks underwater, and flooding touching some homes.
AccuWeather.com News Director Steve Penstone also took some photos of the Elk Creek flooding...
The USGS says that most of their stations in Pennsylvania are at or above their 90th percentile in terms of daily stream flow.
