First Tornado Starts Off Severe Weather Season
The first significant tornado of the Tornado Alley season struck Hammon, Oklahoma last night. If you were following "J's Breaking Weather News" below last night, you would have seen a link to this incredible picture and video (interview w/ Anderson Cooper) when a storm chaser got too close for comfort. Below is video of the storm:
The tornado was large, photogenic, and damaging - 5 homes were destroyed according to CBS News (but thankfully no injuries reported). Needless to say, the statewide tornado drill for Oklahoma was postponed until Thursday. So far the NWS in Norman, OK has only issued a Local Storm Report; hopefully they will follow up with a Storm Survey today. Although a photogenic storm, the radar shots from AccuWeather.com & RadarPlus were not impressive with this storm.
The SPC only had a tiny risk area out (outlook vs. tornado probabilities vs. storm reports shown below) but the tornado occurred within it.
