Extreme Flooding in Ireland Last Weekend
Blog reader Mark from Scotland writes:
"Northern Ireland on Saturday was struck by an extreme downpour Saturday which brought literally a once-in-a-lifetime rainstorm that crippled many areas including metropolitan Belfast and a stretch between Belfast and the Rep of Ireland capitol Dublin. I am a Northern Ireland native and my grand parents live in the southern portion of the country. My grand father (in his 80s) said in a phone call last night (Monday) that this is about the worst flooding he has ever witnessed in Northern Ireland. An overpass in the heart of the capitol, Belfast was almost full of water to top the top of the bridge, said to be . Cars were left submerged beneath flood waters. An extreme and freak downpour that last for a few hours. Northern Ireland and of course Scotland is familiar with rainy weather, but this was something quite different."
SkyNews has a photo and story on the event and the BBC has an article an impressive video (Marc adds "note the waters right up to very top of road going over underpass.") as well as a second story and video.
My apologies for the delay in reporting this - mostly due to my coverage of Tropical Storm Fay.
