Ernesto Update, Google Widget
Just a quick update on Ernesto which has weakened inland over Florida. AccuWeather expects the storm to move back out over water, which would likely cause some strengthening before it makes landfall again further north, probably in the Carolinas.
But today Ernesto has been weakening and elongating, making placing the center of the storm difficult. The latest radar loop from Miami (last night into this afternoon) shows this. Click here to download the (large) Quicktime movie. If you're viewing it in your browser, it will take a few minutes to load in.
The big story with the storm thus far has been the heavy rain, and this will continue to be the story as Ernesto moves northeastward. Doppler estimates say that 8 inches has fallen onshore with over a foot of rain offshore (see image at right).
