One person has been killed in Houston as a result of flooding from the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin, which has brought nearly 10 inches of rain to the area. (A grocery store roof collapsed). Below is a close-up map from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus showing 8 to 10 inches of rain northeast of Houston.
Indeed, one of the Harris County Emergency Management stations has reported 8.46 inches of rain in 24 hours, with 9.45" in the last two days. The stream at that gauge is at 41.54 feet, not far from the 43.1 feet during Allison in 2001, which was famous for its flooding in Texas. Much more rain fell then, of course... I was writing the weather headlines for AccuWeather.com that week and I remember seeing the amazing 36" rainfall amounts show up on our maps.
Below is a more general map showing the heavy rain fall in southeast Texas.
