Ending the Name Debate, Canadian Hurricane?
I'm ending the debate over naming storms based on a news article that I found. Please leave any further comments on that updated blog entry, but we need to move on.
After all, many models are predicting that a storm of Hurricane strength will plow into the US/Canada border, and there is still a significant chance that a Tropical Storm strength storm could cross eastern Massachusetts. We've got a lot of good news stories and blogs on these topics, so check out the headlines to your right, especially Canadian expert Brett Anderson (PREMIUM | PRO). Will Kyle be a Hurricane by the time it reaches Canada? Technically, probably not because the water is so cold, if it doesn't reduce the strength of the system, it will cause it to be renamed as Subtropical or unnamed as Extratropical. Nonetheless, it could still have the winds and waves of your typical Tropical Storm or Category 1 Hurricane.
The main buoy to watch will be the Bermuda Buoy, which is reporting 48-knot winds and waves over 22 feet this morning as the heaviest thunderstorms pass over it. Pretty impressive considering Tropical Storm Kyle does not look that great on satellite.
