Double Trouble For China... Again
Parts of China received between 10 and 20 inches of rain last week (the map below refers to "Friday" as June 13th). This comes, of course, on the heels of record flooding there during the last month, which has killed 63 people (217 this year).
Now, enter Typhoon Fengshen (Frank), originally progged by computer models to go nowhere near the country, but having a propensity to not make a northward turn planned for days. This has led us to create the following forecast map (see also the JTWC forecast track).
Some models were saying Friday that the storm would still miss China, and could decrease in intensity, perhaps disappear, before reaching its second landfall, but we've seen many times in the U.S. that even remnants of storms can trigger enormous rainfall to areas within even proximity of the former storm, so this is definitely a situation that we want to keep an eye on.
