Deep Hail in New Jersey Monday Afternoon!

The web is abuzz this morning with a report of marble-sized hail 3 to 12 inches deep in Washington Township, NJ yesterday. Below I present a video from the event as well as a radar image. More video, photos and reports can be obtained from MyFoxNY and NECN and NorthJersey.com. I have only seen hail this deep once.

The storm formed to the northwest of the Township, intensified, then moved southeast, clipping the southern edge. Hail accumulated "up to one foot in front of a garage on 601 van emburgh avenue" according to a NWS storm spotter report. Local roads were also flooded by heavy rains (and storm drains clogged by hail!)
