Dec. PA Tornado First in Decade?
UPDATE: 8 PM: The news wires are now carrying new, important information about the storms in Pennsylvania. The AP reports, via the CDT:
WNEP Scranton has raw video of the damage to the grocery store and a photo of a tractor trailer tipped over an overpass railing. These reports have not yet made it to the NWS Spotter reports but they are aware of the event, according to the Times Leader. The location quoted above, Mountain Top, PA is near Wilkes-Barre [Google Map].
ORIGINAL POST: 6 PM:
At least two NWS radars have reported three Tornadic Vortex Signatures at the same time this evening in Pennsylvania and New York, according to AccuWeather.com RadarPlus. Beaver Falls, PA gusted to 66 mph according to the NWS. Radar shots and animations are available here. NWS reports indicate a roof was blown off a movie store in Webster, WV and roofs were blown off houses in South Halifax, PA.
The Weather Channel reported at 6 PM that a possible tornado had moved through northeast Pennsylvania. There is no confirmation from NWS reports, Scranton-Area News Outlets, or Google News sources as this time. If it is confirmed, they say it would be the first December tornado in about 10 years.
