Now, I'm sure somebody's going to ask me what the deal is with the weird radar pattern to the east of Detroit at the end of the regular loop. What's happening here is the radar beam is bouncing off the atmosphere and hitting the ground. The shape that you see is Lake St. Clair (Google map). Canada's on the right but we don't show it on this map, no offense intended to any Canadians who may be reading. Why does the interference cut off just to the north of the lake, and in a circular pattern to the east? Hard to say, it's possible the NWS office in Detroit has a permanent filter in that area due to problems like this in the past.
