Daily White Christmas Model Map Updates!
As I did last year, I will be posting the GFS Forecast Model [JessePedia] prediction of snow cover worldwide each day between now and Christmas. Since a "White Christmas" is defined as snow on the ground, these maps serve as the only worldwide prediction for that event this far out in time. Here's today's prediction of where there will be snow on the ground Chistmas morning (12Z December 25th):
It looks like it's giving a fair shot to most of the U.S. except for the Southeast. But of course, that will change. I'm also adding a map this year that shows what kind of winter precipitation will be falling on you Christmas morning (and right now it looks like rain will be falling on snow for much of the Eastern U.S.):
You will be able to access these maps on my AccuWeather.com blog to your left and I'll post an afternoon update to my blog each day as well (at the top of whatever entry I happen to be writing then). On Christmas, I'll have compiled animations of maps for the World, U.S., Canada and Europe so we can see how much the model changed over those two weeks (it should be interesting).
