CloudSat, Calypso See Through Clouds
NASA has some cool images from their recently-launched CloudSat and Calypso satellites, which see through clouds.

CALYPSO
The CloudSat satellite carries a Radar system which sees "reflectivities" not unlike the U.S. ground based NEXRAD Doppler radar system. Calypso has a Lidar system on board. They explain the difference:
