CineMassive MasterPlex 21T
Blog reader Shelia sent in the URL for this awesome computer display system. Now you know what you can get me for Christmas.
The idea of having two verticals and a widescreen, with three monitors on top, is genius. I'd certainly love to have one of these at both home and work but the money eludes me.
So what DO I have at my desk?
I considered a 4-panel display system of that ilk for here at AccuWeather, but I settled on the Dell 23" Flat-Panel LCD TV and Apple 23" Cinema Display instead, to save space. As I blogged about previously, the Dell LCD TV doubles as the screen for my Test PC or Test Mac, while still displaying the cable TV system through Picture-in-Picture. A photofrom last summer is below - I'll upload a better version tonight.
What you don't see there is the old Dell Latitude laptop to the right, and the continuation of the Apple Display on my Latitude D810 screen. So in effect, I have two large and two small monitors in one row from left to right. Again, I'll upload a higher res version tonight; here's a quick pic from the cell phone:
I have managed to switch to all flat-panel displays at My New House [JessePedia] as well, after having up to 6 large CRTs crushing my previous office desk at our old house. Below is a shot from last fall -- it's missing the new flat-panel TV (see below) and if I ever clean up the desk again I'll send you a new shot.
LCD Monitors are getting cheaper, you can get a bottom-of-the-line one at Wal-Mart for under $170 today. Similar prices can be had from Dell if you get a package deal, and even the Wal-Mart monitor will blow away what cost twice as much two years ago.
After trying to survive with having the cable TV open on my main screen all the time (through a video capture card or the Dell 19" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor's Picture-in-Picture) I finally decided to trade that and one of the flat panels for the Westinghouse 19" LCD HDTV Flat-Panel Television / Monitor that I bought on Black Friday. Because of the heat output (even from the flat panels) I try to keep only the HDTV and Dell monitor on at home unless there is a big weather event happening.
