Christmas Eve Eve Flooding
Hours of heavy rain, made worse by melting snow and icepack, coupled with drainage problems caused by extra leaves from our late fall, and left over snow and ice, caused flooding throughout the city of State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map] yesterday (December 23rd, "Christmas Eve Eve." Here's a video I took of flooding on Blue Course Road (it's funny to hear Christmas music playing while looking at floods):
It was not so much creeks but low lying areas and places of bad drainage. High winds blew away Christmas decorations and caused the power to blink. When the heaviest rains came through with high winds, it was like a hurricane. Additional photos and video on the link below show flooding in Haymarket and Orchard Parks.
My weather station at home was not online but I saw gusts over 40 mph on the console. the weather station at AccuWeather HQ gusted to 41 mph. Below is a radar image from the second line of heavy rain, approaching my location ("X" under "KUNV") with a tornadic signature on radar (probably overestimated by the radar due to high winds).
