China flooding could be country's second-worst disaster
The flooding situation in China continues to worsen. It's been a bad year, but the worst of it started at the beginning of July. This map and animation from NASA shows over 800 mm (~30 inches) of rain fell in parts of China between July 3 and 10.

On July 16, the Wall Street Journal estimated that over 200 had been and $22 billion in damage has been done by this year's flooding (primarily this month). If true, that would be the second-largest natural disaster in China's history (according to EMDAT data).
Since then, the flooding has continued. In the last 24 hours, over to 150 mm (in.) of rain fell again, in some of the same areas, causing additional flooding documented by this blog.
