Central PA Thunderstorm Chase 6/8
UPDATE: A lightning strike that I saw while filming the wall cloud apparently hit very near my house yesterday, as the mets were abuzz about seeing or hearing the strike this morning. I am working on pinpointing where the strike hit, based on lightning strike data and a survey of my neighborhood.
As usual, I wasn't prepared for the storms yesterday afternoon here in Central PA, and was out shopping when they hit, but I got on the phone with Henry Margusity and on his advice got into position to watch a wall cloud form, which I tracked to Joe Bastardi's house. It was an AccuChase if ever there was one. Here are a few pics - more commentary and radar shots coming later today.
First, the best pic of the evening from Garrett, Joe Bastardi's son, showing an arcus or wall cloud over Mount Nittany:
Next up, a timelapse of the wall cloud that I taped. Note that, at the very end you can see a tail to the wall cloud which is what I believe Joe's kid was looking at. Still not sure that it wasn't an arcus cloud that we were viewing from different locations - it's always hard to say with perspective.
