Central PA Severe T-Storm 6/8 Videos!
OK folks, I've been busy this weekend but finally here are some videos from Friday night's incredible thunderstorm here in State College, PA.
This storm was perhaps the worst I've seen since I moved here 10 years ago. If you missed it, read my blog during the power outage following the storm.
If you watch nothing else below, watch these short video clips from the longer videos below. Videos may be preceded by advertisements on ad-supported sites.
In the first video, you see me running crouching into the storm to grab our hanging basket flowers down before the wind gets any worse. As I duck back to the garage, keep an eye on the neighbor's post light, which came on due to the extreme darkness. The light flickers out as I pass by it, then comes back on briefly a couple of times, then stays dark. Little did I know this would be the beginning of a 7-hour power outage.

A few minutes later, several pieces of trash and debris fly in front of the camera (keep an eye on the bottom of the screen):
(SHORT) DEBRIS FLYS IN FRONT OF CAMERA
And finally, later in the storm, I'm repositioning the camera to point out the back sliding glass door when I miss (kind of) the biggest strike on film during the storm:

Now for longer videos of the storm approaching my house. First, a video as the gust front was just coming over the horizon. First I am on the phone with Henry, later with Ron.
STORM APPROACHES WHILE ON THE PHONE W/ HENRY, RON
Henry posted a number of compelling videos on his blog (PREMIUM | PRO); I'll feature this one because he was on the phone with me at the time.

Next you can see video from my end, before and during the same phone call (listen for Henry to say "pitch black" again near the end of the video). Notice the constant lightning strikes -- very scary, not at all like your typical weak Northeastern thunderstorm:

Next, you see the gust front approaching with more frequent lightning here:
STORM APPROACH AND LIGHTNING II
Now, the lightning is intense and the wind really starts cranking. I run outside to try to save the hanging plants and the power outage begins. Somebody's calling my cell phone but I can't answer.
MORE LIGHTNING, WIND CRANKS UP
More wind, even more intense. Small and large trees bend over. Debris flies by the camera.
EXTREME WIND, MORE LIGHTNING!
After I moved my camera equipment inside, in this video, you hear Henry call me and we discuss the storm so far. Meanwhile, lightning continues to strike outside my living room window.

Also from blog reader and storm chaser Ron (who was in Johnstown, PA for the storm before it hit here), a video while he is talking on the cell phone to me. You can see several lightning strikes during the video:

And then this video from Ron of extreme wind rain, and some hail, which reminds me of footage I took during Hurricane Fran!
