Central PA Photos: Spring 2012 WIN. Spring 2013 FAIL

It was unusually warm last spring here in State College, Pa., but unusually cold this spring. What does it add up to? Radically different budding and blooming times for trees and flowers (even the grass isn't green yet). Here are some photos that I took one year ago this week versus now. The contrast is stark.

Some of my photos were featured in this AccuWeather.com story. I don't think I've seen such an early spring followed by such a late spring since I moved here in 1998 but it's no wonder, looking at U.S. maps that compare temperatures (large map) and snow cover (large map) now to this time last year:
