Category 4 Hurricane Matthew grinds Bermuda, eyes US
Hurricane Matthew has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm and has razed the western part of New Providence Island in the Bahamas, on its way to an unprecedented bounce up the southeast U.S. coast, causing damage the likes of which hasn't been seen in modern history. I may update this blog later today, but for updates in real-time, visit my Facebook & Twitter pages.
An amateur weather station at Staniel Cay reported a wind gust of 103 mph last night. The last official report transmitted out of the Nassau airport this morning included wind gusts to 85 mph, but we haven't heard from it since then. Unfortunately, there are no buoys or other weather stations near the path, except the Settlement Point coastal station, which will be one to watch tonight.
